i just realized… i’m the target demographic!

Aug 26

I read blogs. I read the WoW subreddit on Reddit. I look at my guild roster at all the inactive accounts. I see all the gnashing of teeth and the wringing of hands. So why am I still logging on 3-5 nights a week? 1) I decided early on in the expansion that I was going to pace myself. I remember in the first few weeks after the expansion was released that I was completely overwhelmed with all the stuff to do. At the time, I was super busy in real life, so I couldn’t throw myself into the game and inhale all the varied activities. So I decided then to pace myself – tackle one thing, then move onto the next. So I leveled my two raiding toons and geared them up. When raiding dried up, I moved on to making gold. When that stabilized, I went to pet battles. Now that I’m reaching my pet battling goals, I’m going to start working on filling up my Toybox. Because of this measured bit-by-bit approach, I have not run out of things to do. 2) I can only play for 1-1.5 hours at a time. I never have a chance to get bored. My Garrison routine on 5 characters takes me about 40 minutes. Then I only have 20-40 minutes left to fill up. Its easy to do that without getting bored. I can go catch some wild pets, run an LFR heroic, do a Garrison Campaign mission, etc… This pretty much makes me the target demographic for the current expansion. 3) I’m now playing for free With three max-level Garrisons and an enchanter, my passive gold-making is about 8-10k per week with zero effort on my part. That more than pays for a monthly WoW Token. With no actual money at stake, why not keep playing? 4) I don’t miss raiding Don’t get me wrong, I love raiding. But it is only one of the myriad of available activities, and I’m content to busy myself with other things while I patiently wait for raiding opportunities to happen again. 5) I’ve been through this before In late Burning Crusade, my guild went through a dead period. People stopped logging...

Latest free Witcher 3 DLC gives Geralt more sword flair

Aug 21

Geralt is already pretty handy with a sword; he can slice somebody in two faster than you can say “hold up, why is still so awkward to apply blade oils in this game”? But this new (and free) Witcher 3 DLC reportedly gives him some even fancier moves. The fifteenth freebie DLC release from CD Projekt Red adds “a pack of all-new combat finishers” with which to flamboyantly dispose of despotic demons. Or mangy monsters. Or whatever. If you’ve not installed any of the free DLCs for The Witcher 3 before, GOG’s announcement provides the easiest method of doing so through both GOG Galaxy and the GOG site itself. “A) If you’re using GOG Galaxy: –Select The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt from the sidebar to open its game page. –Click on the drop-down labeled “More”, (located next to the PLAY button) and choose “Configure”. –The Configure page will feature all available DLCs listed towards the bottom. –Select each DLC that you want to install, and GOG Galaxy will do the rest. If you want to remove the DLC from your game, simply uncheck the selection box. B) If you’re using the website: You can download installers for each DLC pack manually. Simply head to the Library section of My Account, locate The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, and download the files you want. Afterwards, run each one as if you were installing a game or patch.” You’ll also need to have signed up for the free Witcher 3 DLC package to begin with,...

Rares and RNG – They Just Don’t Like Me

Jul 07

I spent 5 hours or so working my weapon smithing yesterday in Wurm Online, raising the skill up an entire point (and a bit) which as anyone who has leveled weapon smithing will tell you, is quite a feat. It is the slowest skill to level up, and thus weapon smith accounts are worth quite a bit of money. In that time I had at least four rare rolls, and I had failed every roll, resulting in no rare items. Of course I decided to blog about it, and the second I started this post, before this first paragraph was even done, I succeeded at a rare roll, and my butchering knife turned rare. I take this as a sign that I should complain about RNG more often! Players who have premium accounts are supposed to have a heightened chance at creating rare items, but honestly I’ve never had that much luck with them. I can count on one hand the amount of rares I’ve created over the years and they don’t measure very many. Normally I sell them off, enchanted rares are worth a handful of silver and that’s a wonderful way to pay for my deeds. I haven’t decided if I’ll sell my latest rare or not. Butchering knives are nice because even if a creature is ‘starving’ they will provide meat. I’ve tried to bid on a few butchering knives over time but they always seem to go higher than my budget allows. I’ve been debating trying to get a collection of rare tools together to help with my weapon smithing. Not many are required. A hammer, whetstone, pelt, ore, and water is all I use. I don’t believe pelts can be rare, but I should be able to find a hammer. My tools are already pretty nice quality (90+) though they could stand to get a few enchants as well. Anything that helps me level up my skills a bit faster is a help. I decided to take all the tools I owned that were below 50 ql (extras I had stashed away) and improve them all to 60, so that’s what my forge is filled with at the moment. Then I’ll bring them to...

Destiny’s New Iron Banner Having Some Issues

Jul 01

Update: Bungie posted on Twitter that the problems with Iron Banner should be resolved. Players should now be receiving reputation and rewards from Iron Banner games at the conclusion of matches, as usual. Original Story: Destiny’s limited-time Iron Banner multiplayer event returned today, but things didn’t go exactly to plan. Players are reporting experiencing the “Anteater” error, which is kicking them from matches. Not only that, but Bungie says Iron Banner gains are not always applying as they should. The developer is looking into these issues, and asks players to “stand by” for updates. “We are actively investigating reports that Iron Banner gains are not being granted after matches,” Bungie wrote on Twitter at 11:52 AM PDT, under two hours after Iron Banner went live at 10 AM PDT. The “gains” that Bungie is referring to are new Iron Banner rewards, which include a Pulse Rifle called Skorri’s Revenge, among other gear. In other Destiny news, Bungie formally announced the game’s next expansion, The Taken King, earlier this month at E3. The expansion, which will cost $40, has been somewhat controversial. For more, check out GameSpot’s hands-on impressions of The Taken King and an overview video...

How can Jagex Fix Slayer Expansion to Be More Potential in OSRS?

Jun 05

Since the introduction of slayer expansion, there are lots of players claiming that slayer expansion makes slayer skills be pointless and asking Jagex to fix it. Do you think it is possible to rework slayer as players wish? Well, it isn’t confirmed, but we can stock cheap rs 2007 gold to expect for some improvements since Jagex is collecting feedback now! Contents of slayer expansion As the Dev Blog on May 15 shows, during that expansion, players would simply receive a slayer assignment of ‘kill x bosses’, rather than being set a task for a specific boss. Besides, players would be able to kill any boss that you would like. In addition, tasks of bosses will be available from Nieve and Duradel and as the experience rates at bosses will not be so great, players will be rewarded with an additional 5,000 slayer experience upon completing a boss task. Suggestions to improve rs slayer Different from slayer partner, slayer expansion seems to be larger work. As it stands currently, players will get a task to kill any boss, which would remove interesting aspect since it is no need to figure out a method of completing the task. Thus, it is regarded to defeat the purpose of how the slayer skill is supposed to work. So how can we fix slayer to be better? There are a few ways to fix this according to some players’ suggestion: 1. There could be an entire slayer master dedicated to boss slayer, limiting the amount of tasks that one can get per day, or just allowing killing the specific boss. Thus, tasks could be incredibly rare because it is only one task. 2. Also only a boss slayer master as above, but only when Duradel and Nieve tell you to get the assignment from boss slayer master, you can get one from him (the boss slayer master assigns you a specific boss task). It is likely that he could summon you if he deems you ready, using his lesser slayer masters as messengers. 3. Boss slayer should not be any boss but instead be subdivided into groups like GWD Bosses, Wilderness Bosses, Original Slayer bosses, etc. And Corp beast and Zul’rah shouldn’t be...
